Pou Des Lleo
Pou des Lleó (“the well of the lion”) or Canal d'en Martí is situated at five kilometres from Sant Carles de Peralta, located between Punta d'en Valls, where there is the tower with the same name which used to prevent from the dangerous pirate attacks, and Punta Verda, as well as net to the village of es Figueral. From its coast you can see isla de Tagomago (Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès and former shelter for berberisc pirates).
This beautiful rectangular sea inlet finishes on a very small cove, with a surface of sand and seaweed, whereas at the rear you can find some escars (typical dry docks) as well as scrubland vegetation.
This beach has an orientation toward northeast and it is open to the wind from this direction, blowing from the sea and reaching sometimes an important strength. The sandy areas are combined to the rocky areas with seaweed. These underwater particularities and the transparency of the water invite you to dive on the surface.
This natural setting is full of legends. Some say that it might have been the entrance of an artificial Punic port in the coast or of a small coastal lake which might be used as jetty.
The accessibility by car is easy following the signs and the deviations. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. you can also come by bicycle.
These characteristics explain that the beach of Pou des Lleó is frequented by some local visitors.
