Monza

Originating from Frankfurt Patrik Dechent the man behind 'Monza' tells me 'We're ready for a new beginning with Sankey's'. The club night which ran into difficulty due to licence problems last year at Cova Santa temporarily moved to 'Come Together' at Space, but has found a more permanent base at Sankey's Playa D'en Bossa with its season opening due to take place on Thursday 23rd June.
On the history of the night Dechent tells me the name 'Monza' refers not just to the Formula One racetrack in Italy but also to the playboy image of 60's race car drivers "When we came up with the name in 1999 I was running the club with DJ T. my oldest friend in different locations in Frankfurt. Retro names were popular at the time like 'Robert Jonson' so we decided to use only images of 60's race car drivers and colours associated to this. Our artwork will never feature the face of a DJ. We stand for good music and good taste and are underground for this reason."

Monza's underground history on the island has entailed moving from venue to venue but Dechent is adamant they have finally found a home "Yes, Sankey's have taken this venue over for the next 4 or 5 years, our idea is to follow with this. What they are trying to develop is the first urban city club in Ibiza which fits our concept perfectly. In 1999, our beginning Monza was a really small nightclub atmosphere with capacity for 250 and I think the big floor concept is kind of gone on the island. "
