Kehakuma - Damian Schwartz
Kehakuma - The Season Begins.......
Kehakuma opened last week to a packed house of underground music aficionados ready to enjoy the musical adventures that are in store over the coming months. The queues outside were testament to the popularity the night has already established on the island and the Terraza, Sunset Terrace and Red Box played host to the night's festivities. Simon Baker was on early duty on the Sunset Terrace and styled his way through his customary chunky house grooves to the busy early crowd.
The main action took place on the Terraza, where Mihai Popoviciu made the first of what will eventually be several major steps in making his name on the island this year. He was followed by someone also fairly new to playing gigs in Ibiza but has spent the past 12 months becoming the hottest name around, Maya Jane Coles, who safe to say, fairly obliterated the famous terrace. Her sound had a constant energy to it but maintained a solid rhythm, that locked in the groove from Mihai's set and positioned things nicely for Kehakuma top boy Nick Curly to end the night's proceedings. The German who plays more dates than anyone for the party this year, relished in the closing set role and road-testing several of his new productions to great effect; what a way to start.
Over the course of the coming months, Thursdays at Space will welcome the great and the good of the underground house scene with guests from last year returning in the form of Guy Gerber, Radio Slave, Seth Troxler and Tiefschwarz, as well as a new wave of performer's that are set to be the next generation of stars in Ibiza and beyond. All the members of the Visionquest quartet appear at some point and Nick Curly's Mannheim compatriots like Johnny D, Federico Molinari and Ray Okpara also play a key role. Edu Imbernon flies the flag for Spain with a series of gigs and Jamie Jones headlines two parties, including a huge closing bash that also features Nick Curly, Mathias Kaden, Simon Baker and Glimpse.
